Lost Empire Herbs Review – I Love Love LOVE Them!
Wow! THIS is a fabulous store! As a paying customer, I feel a Lost Empire Herbs review is in order. Firstly, their website, LostEmpireHerbs.com has some really difficult to find, very high quality and powerful herbs and educational resources. The store was founded and is managed by three brothers, Zane, Cloud, and Logan Christopher. These guys are very hands-on, and talk with honesty and integrity. These are guys after my own heart. Once you visit LostEmpireHerbs.com and get to know the background of these guys, I think you’ll fall in love with them as much as we have.
How I Got Interested in Herbs
On a personal note, I (Kathy, the lead female on the MyFavDeals.org team) and my husband have a deep and abiding respect and interest in medicinal mushrooms (primarily chaga and red-banded polypores), and we harvest them as well – so when we noticed that LostEmpireHerbs.com also loves them – well, that was pretty much the icing on the cake.
They have stuff that I have literally just been hearing about in different alternative health journals and some of it sounds pretty exciting. They are one of the most respected folks when it comes to where to buy Pine Pollen (evidently one of their most popular signature items!).
Then, I noticed they have a lot of the medicinal mushrooms like chaga, lion’s mane (we know it as bear claw up north, and we have it growing on our property – we actually just had some!), Cordycep mushrooms, and reishi.
Until Lost Empire Herbs came into my view, I had never heard of ant extract, ashwagandha, bacopa, or Maral Root. They have hormone testing kits, books and other educational and informational resources, Shilajit Powder and Resin (which I recently began taking), female and male hormonal support formulas and just so much more.
I started with Lost Empire Herbs Athena Woman’s Formula
My love affair with Lost Empire Herbs began upon ordering their Athena Woman’s Formula. “Way back” in 2017 I started to look at some herbs that would help support hormonal changes. After searching online for some potential solutions, I happened upon the Lost Empire Herbs products.
Now, while I could purchase any and all of the various herbs and minerals separately, I kind of liked the idea of the Athena powder formulation. I wound up created one of my earliest “review videos” and put it up on YouTube.
I’m putting this old Lost Empire Herbs review video right below this post, so you can get a look at some of what I personally found to be most impressive about the company.
I have more stuff I can review on film, and as time allows, I will add additional review videos.
Different Products We’ve Tried from Lost Empire Herbs
Since I started using the Athena Woman’s Formula, I’ve branched out into additional products from Lost Empire Herbs.
For a while, my husband was quite ill, and to help support his treatments (which were very successful), we added stuff like Pine Pollen, and then the Phoenix Formula since it included a number of helpful ingredients (including the Pine Pollen). Actually, we both were taking the Phoenix Formula for a while at that point.
Lately, we’ve been taking Shilajit as I mentioned above (we have the resin), Schisandra berry (I LOVE the taste of Lost Empire Herbs’ Schisandra berry powder!) and Ashwagandha.
I bought additional Schisandra (or Schizandra, depending on how you spell it) berry powder even though it’s already in the Athena formula, because I like the taste so much! I know…that’s probably not really the best reason to buy something! haha!
Also lately, I’ve started to look at the Gynostemma Tea, which I’ll write about soon.
Lost Empire Herbs Coupon Code
Well, after we were using the products for a while, and then began promoting them, we asked about offering readers a Lost Empire Herbs coupon code. The company has been very good to us, as well as to our readers! They agreed to offer an exclusive savings! We have added all promos with our special promo code at this section of the website: Lost Empire Herbs coupon codes can be seen here!
I have a feeling that you are going to hear a lot about this store, and the brothers behind the brand. Their impeccable attention to detail and research is second to none, in my opinion. And, also in my opinion, they certainly deserve your consideration if you are looking for high quality herbal products and supplements. Thank you so much for reading!

Keep Mealtime Neat And Fun With Ezpz Happy Mats
Ok folks! Let’s get right to the point: the ezpz Happy Mat is a true winner in every way! As a reviewer, obviously I look for new products to investigate – and I sometimes find them in interesting ways. One of them is through television, and I don’t mean commercial advertisements. I have to admit that I’m a Shark Tank junkie and I love to promote products that have been on the show, such as the Squatty Potty – another total winner (not to mention their great “Unicorn Pooping” commercial).
ezpz Shark Tank Appearance
So, it was through Shark Tank I was introduced to www.ezpzfun.com when the program showcased the original ezpz Happy Mat, a child’s placemat that sticks to the surface of the table so a child can’t go hurling food and dish off as the meal progresses.
Lindsey Laurain, the founder of ezpz, shared on the show that the company netted $1.2 million in gross sales and $140, 00 in profit in their first year. Although two “sharks” offered her deals structured around her basic goals but not the one she requested, in the end she decided not to accept because in the end the fit just wasn’t quite right for her needs. The next year her sales climbed to $2 million and the company continues to grow in sales and add new products through today.
The Happy Mat, ezpz’s signature product, works through suction to keep its silicon placemat attached to the tabletop. It is made of 100 percent food-grade silicon, as are all the companies’ mats. All the placemat and dish combination products: the Happy Mat, Happy Bowl, Mini Mat, Flower Place Mat, Mini Bowl – and most recently the Care Bear Collection; are microwave, dishwasher, and oven safe (up to 350°).
They are BPA, BPS, PVC, phthalate, and latex free as well as hypo-allergenic. The products do not harbor bacteria. They promote self-feeding and the development of fine motor skills.
Not only do they make mealtime easier for everyone, a genius idea all by itself, but they are colorful and fun! They have also become my go-to gift for baby showers and birthday gifts for all my friend’s babies, grandbabies, and toddlers.
ezpz Happy Mat Prices
The original ezpz Happy Mat retails online for $24.99 (less for the Mini Bowls, and just a few dollars for the Micro Mats) and is available in seven colors: coral, lime, gray, blue, blush, sage , and pewter. It is an all-in-one plate and placemat that captures all the dining mess of your infant/toddler and keeps it confined to one space. It suctions directly to the table, making it nearly impossible for tiny hands to lift up and tip over. Measuring 15 inches by ten inches by one inch, it fits most standard high chairs. Three to four mats can be stacked and carried with food in them. They are easy to store because of their flat bottoms and are built to last. They don’t corrode, fade, or deteriorate.
The portion sizes (in the “eyes” and “smiles” of the dish) are suited to toddlers at four ounces in the eyes and 10 ounces in the smile. These compartments encourage parents to serve a fruit, veggie, and protein plus carbohydrate for a balanced meal. Its smiley face design also encourages kids to be in a positive mealtime mood, promoting self-feeding. Reaching for fruit and veggie pieces also develops fine motor skills and eye-hand coordination.
The ezpz Happy Bowl
The Happy Bowl is the next evolution of the Happy Mat. It also suctions directly to the table, making it difficult to tip over and spill its contents. At its one and one half inch height, the bowl is perfect for a variety of foods, including soup, cereal, oatmeal, and pasta. This products is designed for infants/toddles from six months+ and retails at $19.99 It holds an eight ounce portion of food.
You can microwave food directly in the bowl to warm it. Made of the same material as the Happy Mat, it has all the same product qualities as well and is offered in the same colors. Its base size is slightly larger than the Happy Mat at 15 inches by ten inches.
The ezpz Mini Mat
The Mini Mat is another all- in-one- placemat. Like the larger ones, it suctions to the table and is ezpz’s solution for travelers. At ten and three quarter inches by seven and three quarter inches by one inch, the Mini Mat fits most high chair trays including “space saver” models. It caters to infants with two ounce portion sizes for the eyes and four once potions in the smile. It is perfect for traveling and dinners out because it is lightweight and compact.
Easy to carry, it comes packaged in a reusable bag that you can stow away in your diaper bag. It retails for $19.99. I think this would be especially helpful to have for a child who is used to the Happy Mat at home, so there is mealtime continuity in a strange place to help the child eat well.
In addition to these three mat/dish combinations, ezpz offers five specialty items for sale as well. One is the “bapron” – a bib/apron hybrid. They also have a combo Happy Bowl + Logan & Lenora Wet Bag. It seems like they come out with fun and new ideas pretty often from what I’ve been seeing.
Making Mealtime Ezpz Book
Another specialty item is their cookbook, “Making Mealtime Ezpz: Fun Ways to Fill the Happy Mat” is full of tips on healthy foods, dealing with picky eaters, and much more. It contains lots of recipes and fun food art to make that are ezpz for parents. It retails for $19.99. A good companion gift to pair with the cookbook is their Silly Billyz Bib, which retails for $8.99. This bandana bib is made from premium 100 percent cotton jersey that is machine washable and tumble-dry safe. It features a three position snap closure neck to assure a comfortable fit. It is great for not only mealtimes but all day drooling.
Flower Play Mat
The fourth specialty item is the Flower Play Mat. This mat is a fun change of pace since it can be used for more than just serving food. With the “flower” off to the side, it is designed to be used for art and fun too! Available in lemon and mint and retailing for less than $28, the Flower Play Mat is perfect for painting, bead working, necklace making, Lego sorting, and anything your imagination can devise.
The petal cup divisions of the flower are sized for the pincer grip of a child, which assists with the development of fine motor skills. The container’s higher lip captures beads, water and the other materials you place in them. The mat’s size (16.5 by 12.25 by one and one quarter inch) can hold a standard (eight and one half by 11 inch) sheet of paper.
The Micro Mat
The Micro Mat is the other specialty offering. Priced at $3.99 and made in blue or pink, this tiny mat (only three inches by two inches) is smaller than a crayon. And it’s the right size to serve your little one’s Legos and dolls. It is also just the right size for introducing a morsel of a new food. You can have it placed beside the regular Happy Mat during a meal!
ezpz Amazon Reviews
ezpz currently earns 4.5 stars out of well over 1500+ reviews on Amazon. 71% of these are 5 star ratings, with 12% at 4 stars. See the product page I’m referring to at Amazon HERE (basic ezpz Happy Mat). Their website, www.ezpzfun.com, offers many recipes posted from their customers with pictures and stories to enjoy. They also have their Mealtime Made ezpz Blog with great posts such as: “The Happy Mat and Child Development”, “How to Introduce Blueberries to Your Toddlers”, and “Language Activities on the Happy Mat”.
If you have infants and toddlers in your life or know someone who does, I highly recommend ezpz’s products! And I think this would be an awesome baby shower (or other gift-giving occasion) gift too!

Headout – Now We’re Talking Fun!
Now that summer is coming to an end, I feel like I’m about to hand in a “How I Spent My Summer Vacation” report to my teacher; but really this is about how Headout helped me put more stress-free fun and adventure in my life!
The Spark That Ignited My Love For Exploring New Places
Although I grew up in Queens, New York, here in the United States, I spent many a summer with my mother’s family in an island paradise in the Caribbean. After doing that a few times, it was only natural that I would develop a love for rest, relaxation, and vacations.
Thanks to traveling to the Caribbean for visits, the love for rest, relaxation, and vacations came coupled with a thirst for travel and local fun.
Here’s How Life Got In The Way (as it so often does)
As I got older and the responsibilities of adulthood began to take hold, I quickly got lost in the rat-race we call life. Subsequently, the opportunities to participate in seeing what even my own area had to offer became less and less available.
The situation became increasingly worse as I started my own business and devoted what seemed to be every waking hour building the foundations of success for that.
Still, even as my workload increased, and the time I spent seeing sites and vacationing became drastically reduced, I never really lost my sense of adventure.
Finding A Solution
Understandably, having less time for leisure would take its toll sooner or later. It wasn’t long before I would find myself overworked and in need of an out. I quickly decided that I would have to start enjoying some “me time” – and doing so right where I am – starting with my own city and other unexplored nearby destinations.
If you’ve ever felt like this, you might imagine the relief I felt just from making the decision. I was going to figure out a way to start exploring the city and start seeing shows and visiting museums, etc. If you have ever lived in a city, you may be able to relate to what I’m talking about. The problem for me, usually, was that there is a bit of “overwhelm” since there is always something going on.
Where to begin? It’s one thing to say I’m going to start taking some time for myself, but it’s another thing to actually DO it. I decided to do some digging for ideas. It was then that my friend, who knows everything that’s going on in my life, told me about Headout, which proved to be a lifesaver for me. And, THIS is where things began to get exciting! And this is why I needed to put this “report” together for readers here!
Headout – Event tickets, museums, attractions…it just goes on!
Headout is a great application that has allowed me to explore a “vacation experience” in my own city. It’s obviously not just for New Yorkers – there are experiences and events all over the world curated on this app.
Even better was being able to do this on my own terms. As a self-employed individual, in my field, things can be a little unpredictable. Sometimes things come out of nowhere and fill up your schedule, and other times, an otherwise full schedule becomes empty thanks to cancellations and other changes in plan.
In short, I needed an event planning option that would be able to accommodate the spontaneity that was my life. Hence, the Headout app.
My Favorite Features
The more I used the Headout platform to plan for seeing shows and museums, etc, the more I fell in love with it and some of its features. Here are some of the features I like best:
- The wide range of options
Undoubtedly, one of the best options that Headout offers, is the wide range of entertainment options to consider. To say I was surprised at the variety of sites and places to enjoy right here in New York (outside of the major ‘touristy’ attractions like Times Square and Lady Liberty, of course) is an understatement.
There were lots of undiscovered gems, and all it took was Headout and a relatively free weekend to be engrossed in beauty and adventure.
Those who use Headout will find that there are activities and places for people of all kinds of tastes, preferences, and where appropriate – needs. For example, while one individual may want to completely drop off the grid for a day (like going on a safari in Dubai), others would want something a bit more cosmopolitan. There are amazing options for all. It is just a matter of deciding what it is you do want.
Amazing Dubai Deals and Discounts
If you go to the site (and let’s just say the New York events section since that’s the one I’m most familiar with), you can sign up to see one of a gajillion Broadway plays, one of many walking tours, take a Daytime Sailing Cruise (ON MY LIST!), go to museums – and not just the best known ones, although those are in there too, and even food tours.
For example, I hadn’t been to the American Museum of Natural History on Central Park West & 79th since I was a kid, but figured, why not? With Headout my ticket – which got me into everything – was only $22, so that saved me over $10 right there. And yes, the museum is STILL just as good as ever!
On my list is the Tenement Museum (on Orchard Street in Lower Manhattan), a few of the food tours, and maybe if I get my courage up, a helo ride. One of my friends just saw “Kinky Boots” (the Tony Award winning show where Cyndi Lauper wrote the music!) using the app. BTW: She HIGHLY recommends that show, so it’s also on my list.
- Ease of use
Finding places to see and things to do was easy to do. For starters, all the top cities were listed right there on the front page of the Headout platform. Once you select your city – in my case New York – you were presented with an amazingly wide range of options (see above).
As tech-savvy as I am, I appreciated the user-friendliness of the Headout platform. Even the least tech-savvy among us would be able to successfully navigate the platform and find what it is they are looking for. Additionally, there is an easy search option that anyone can use to search for vacation options by place, activity, or any criterion.
- Options at the drop of a hat
One of the most thrilling features of Headout was (is!) the ability to just use the platform to plan a ‘get up and go’ day trip (or evening event). As I explained earlier, this was a much-needed feature as my schedule was very unpredictable. Headout, in many ways, was like that friend that is available to go with you for drinks and listen to you vent when you have had a rough day, or week.
Even though when I first tried the app, I was going alone, there were other people around, and in some cases, you do get a tour guide (e.g. They just added a pub crawl called the NY Craft Cocktail Tour which sounds like a blast, and I’m planning on trying that. Oh, and the Greenwich Village Italian Food Tour. For sure!)
Anyway, speaking of friends, fun events planned with Headout need not be all about solo excursions (unless, of course, that is what you want). Instead, you can opt to “head on out” with the app – and of course with friends too!
And, just in case you’re wondering, yes, families with children can find lots of options too.
Oh – if any of you readers are going to be in Hong Kong, you should see some of the “Foodie” adventures! For example, I’ve always wanted to try my hand at cooking Chinese food, and there just so happens to be a Cantonese Cooking Class being offered!
And, if you happen to be planning on visiting Paris, maybe a dinner cruise on the Seine might be fun! You get the idea…
- Benefits beyond the vacation
Of course, being able to explore and enjoy great new sites and places in and around my area was a gift in and of itself. Still, I could not help but appreciate the other benefits that using the Headout app would afford me. These benefits included a cash back for “heading out” on certain specially selected experiences. This cash back could be spent on future Headout adventures.
This was all I needed to know. I’m Sold! The cash back was a great incentive for me to select my adventures and experiences carefully. Cash backs ensured that the more I did experience, the more I could experience.
- Courteous and available support
As a service-oriented person due to my own work, I know that more often than not, a service is only as good and useful as the customer service that comes with the skills. At the end of the day, lots of things can go wrong with planning a trip to a place you have never been. Be it the need to change dates, rework a schedule, or clarify information, it is important to have a reliable customer service system that you can call on in the event you are in need.
I have continually found the customer service that Headout offers to be both friendly and reliable. The members of their customer service team are courteous, knowledgeable, and always helpful. As you might imagine, their customer care services are available 24-hours a day, 7-days a week.
- Deals, steals, and financial security
Finally, I love the fact that the company offers lots of deals to those who plan or book experiences using their platform. As a woman and business owner with responsibilities, and not necessarily lots of cash to go around, I appreciate that the adventures and experiences offered up through these guys are affordable.
This is thanks to Headout having great relationships and partnerships with the brands and service providers that facilitate the activities of a Headout adventure.
In addition to getting me curated deals, and the best possible prices for my “adventures,” Headout also prides itself in the security of its platform to process financial transactions. This sort of quality assurance and safety is truly appreciated these days.
In any case, I can also rest assured that if something was to indeed go wrong, Headout’s customer service team would do everything to ensure that they right that wrong.
They cover great deals in a lot of major cities around the world besides my own beloved NYC, including Las Vegas, Barcelona, Amsterdam, London, Rome, Singapore, Madrid, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Florence, Hong Kong, Dubai, and the State of Hawaii. It wouldn’t surprise me to discover that they add more cities and events as time goes on.
For example, even though Florida doesn’t appear to be largely featured, there are definitely some events to be found!
Yeah, I know… you’re probably ready to contact them now…Today!
Seriously, I would highly recommend Headout to anyone wishing to add some adventure-filled and rich experiences to their lives for those moments when they need it the most. By simply heading to www.headout.com anyone can get started with finding and booking their next adventure. The front page is clearly laid out, is mobile friendly (I access the platform mostly from my cell), and easy to understand and use.
Best of all, members of the Headout team are available and willing and able to answer any questions that one may have.
I cannot stress enough just how thankful I am to have found this app! It came right one time when I needed to put some zing into my life. Maybe that little trip to the museum which brought me back to my childhood was what triggered my enthusiasm for the folks who run the company. LOL… Who knows for sure…
But, I will not only continue to use the app here in my own town, but when I’m supposed to be travelling to a conference in Las Vegas early next year. There are a LOT of cool things going on there that I’m interested in seeing, and with the Headout app, they’ve pretty much searched out all the types of stuff I’d want to do, so it will also save me a lot of time when I actually get out there.
You have nothing to lose by trying them – except the stress of the rat race, or banging your head against a wall trying to figure out something fun to do on the spur of the moment, or to recommend to visiting friends (which I’m also doing).
You do, however, have everything to gain thanks to the all the adventure and amazing experiences that await you. So, what are you waiting for? Anyway, thanks to MyFavDeals for letting me submit my experience!
(Editor’s note: We want to thank our friend Sophia for this Headout review! )

Awesome Jacob Bromwell Review & Interview with Company President Sean Bandawat
There are few companies in the US today that evoke a feeling of tradition and Americana like Jacob Bromwell. Having been purveyors of high quality and Made in the USA household and gift products since 1819, you might think that in the 21st century where smartphones and laptops are disposed of and replaced as casually as a pair of socks or underwear, that a copper whiskey flask, popcorn popper or cheese grater would be smiled upon as sweet and nostalgic – but hardly something today’s consumers would be coveting.
Jacob Bromwell’s Appeal
However, you would be mistaken, because Jacob Bromwell has bucked the trend toward disposable consumerism when other US manufacturers have thrown up their hands and thrown in the towel. But not Jacob Bromwell.
This company might appear to be somewhat of a mystery to those who live, work, and shop in a here-today/gone-tomorrow tilt-a-whirl of big box stores and media-generated consumer madness that seems to engulf most of our society.
But the moment you step into the world of Jacob Bromwell, there is a palpable feeling that you’ve returned home, and suddenly, you wonder when plastic replaced glass and metal, or when the slimy and chemical ridden microwave popcorn became “normal” versus fresh-popped.
As I shop at Jacob Bromwell, I am personally overtaken by wondering what the heck has happened to our lives, and feeling that the rest of the world has just gone crazy.
We reached out to the company president
And that’s what brings me here. I had to find out more about this company, so I reached out to Sean Bandawat, President of The Bromwell Company to find out more about what makes these guys keep on ticking.
How is it that this company has been able to avoid being swallowed by big box stores and “Big Corporation?”
It’s obvious, from the moment you visit the company’s website that Jacob Bromwell adheres to its mission of helping folks not only immerse themselves in our historical traditions, but also to help our children and our children’s children do the same. Our history and traditions are too important to allow them to fade away, and the Jacob Bromwell brand aims to be sure that doesn’t happen.
I was so delighted when Sean agreed to an exclusive interview with us here at MyFavDeals.org! It was so much fun that we wound up turning the interview into a video so that our readers and customers could hear all this straight from Sean. So, I have included the video here for your listening and viewing pleasure! If you prefer to read what we talked about, I’ve got the interview right here!
Let’s dive in!
The Jacob Bromwell Exclusive Interview
Kathy Tremblay: Hello everybody this Kathy Tremblay with myfavdeals.org and I have a great and distinct pleasure of being on the phone with Sean Bandawat who is the president of the Bromwell Company. Which is the company who behind Jacob Bromwell which is a wonderful company, a wonderful website, and steeped in tradition; almost 200 years old.
We’re going to learn all about it today with Sean. Sean are you there?
Sean Bandawat: I am. Thanks so much.
Kathy: Thank you! We are so psyched to have you on this. This is really, probably, I’m going to say this is the first MyFavDeals podcast that we’re doing and I’m so exciting about it. I know that a lot of people, probably, already know what Jacob Bromwell is but for those of our readers and our listeners who aren’t familiar with you can you give just a brief background of the company, and a little bit of the history, and how the original Jacob Bromwell got started with this?
Sean: Absolutely. Jacob Bromwell is one of oldest companies in America founded in 1819. Like you said, it’s just about 200 years old, a few years shy of 200. It is the oldest kitchenware and housewares manufacturing company in North America as well. It’s a company steeped with history, American history and, obviously, much older than all of us here, that work here today.
The products that we make are nostalgic, heritage products. Kitchenware, bakeware, home goods, various copper products like flasks and copper cups, things like that. They’re all backed by a lifetime guarantee, they’re all made in the USA, and they all have that nostalgic feel to them. We’re selling in a very niche market to customers that appreciate those types of things.
Jacob Bromwell customers
Kathy: Tell me a little bit about the customer. How on earth did the customers find you? I know that a lot of it has an urban and hip feel to it.
Sean: We really have two main types of customers. The first type is for the kitchenware line. It’s actually more middle aged and older women that can identify with the bakeware products. Like the flour sifter, and the cheese grater, things like that.
On that note, really quickly, it’s actually related to this: one in four American households actually owns a Bromwell cheese grater.
They may not know it but it’s a pretty popular item. We’ve sold more than 100 million of those since the company was founded and so a lot of households still have them. A lot of people still purchase those, especially women, because they’re used to that product and they’ve used it for so many years.
Then the other customer that we have is, like you said, the hipster. Men and women who are in their 20s and 30s and urban areas, Seattle, Portland, Los Angeles, Chicago, New York, Boston, places like that where they’re looking for products that are unique and speak to their individual character.
Bromwell Products = Longevity
Kathy: That is fabulous. I can speak to that one in four households, by the way. Now, I don’t know if it’s a Jacob Bromwell but I have one of those graters at my house that I got … oh my gosh I can’t tell you how long we’ve had it. I don’t know if I got that or if John got it from his family but it is old and it is the only grater we use at home. I’m not sure it’s a Jacob Bromwell but if it isn’t it’s a close imitator, I am telling you.
Sean: It may be a Jacob Bromwell it may not be but over the years, unfortunately … It’s pretty unfortunate but the products weren’t always stamped with Bromwell on it. It actually more than likely is but, unfortunately, there’s no hard way to tell.
Kathy: I’ll tell you, it’s got a lot of age to it. It’s solid as anything we’ve ever had. It’s the only grater. We didn’t bring it down south with us this year because we’re in a tiny car but it’s like how can we live without our grater? That is the grater. It’s interesting that you mention that.
With Jacob Bromwell being nearly 200 years old, to your knowledge Sean, are there any other companies going this strong for so long?
Sean: There’s a handful but most of the companies that are that old, by this point in time, they’ve either been acquired, they’ve been renamed, they’ve gone out of business. One thing or another happened where they’re either not exactly intact anymore.
There’s really only a handful of companies that are as old as we are that have still been in continuous operation making the same products for that long. We’re pretty proud of that accomplishment. Absolutely.
Kathy: You should be. Are any of the original Jacob Bromwell’s descendants still involved? Just out of curiosity.
Sean: They’re not. Obviously, the company was founded by Jacob Bromwell back in 1819 and it stayed in the family for a while. I want to say one or two family members after he passed continued running the company and then, at that point, it was sold so they are not. I actually do have a relationship with some of the family members that still live in Ohio, where the company was founded. It’s pretty neat to talk to them and to get their perspective on things.
Kathy: Wow. I love that. Now, back in 1819, obviously, life wasn’t as complicated and I remember reading over on the site … By the way, that is an outstanding website. I don’t know if you were behind that but that is a fabulous, fabulous website. It’s like a history story in itself.
Sean: Thank you.
Jacob Bromwell History
Kathy: You’re welcome. It started with wire brushes, am I correct?
Sean: It did. It started off as a wire weaving business and a lot of people don’t know what that is. Wire weaving back in the early 1800s was a pretty popular thing. The Bromwell Company had thousands of products in the catalog from wire benches to flour sifters, which we obviously still make today, to mops, brooms, rat traps.
All different types of products that really appealed to Americans at that time. Wire weaving was one of the original types of goods that the company made.
Kathy: There had to be a couple of brick and mortar stores. Was the Bromwell Company originally stretched throughout the frontier, was it a wagon, how were things sold?
Sean: The company was founded in Cincinnati, Ohio which, at the time, was just about as west as you could get in the United States which is crazy to think about. They used to actually call that area the West. That was where the company was founded and Jacob Bromwell himself set up shop.
He was a war veteran of the war of 1812 which was a pretty gruesome battle. The story on our website goes into more detail on this but he, basically, went on a flat boat … a totally true story.
Took a flat boat, crossed the Mississippi River, went to Cincinnati, Ohio, and set up the Bromwell Brush and Wire Goods Company. Set up a shop in Cincinnati, Ohio, and hired people, and started making products.
The company grew rapidly and by the late 1800s it was actually the largest manufacturing company in the United States for a short period of time. Had thousands of employees across seven states: Indiana, and Ohio, Illinois, all throughout the Midwest there.
It was a pretty big operation for a while.
Long History, and Early Presence on the Internet
Kathy: Can you imagine what he would think right now about the Internet? To think that 200 years later his goods would be being sold in this space-age.
Sean: Electronic world, yeah.
Kathy: When did you guys hit the Internet? When did Jacob Bromwell go online?
Sean: We were actually pretty early to e-commerce. We went live with our site in the early 90s like ’93, ’94.
Kathy: No kidding? Wow.
Sean: Yeah. Which, at the time, was pretty aggressive.
Kathy: That’s interesting. If you think about the similarities between Jacob Bromwell 200 years ago doing something that was very unusual in his day and the company still did something unusual not even 200 years later by being one of the pioneers in e-commerce when you think about it.
Sean: That’s true. Absolutely.
Bromwell Products Made with Pride in the USA
Kathy: I know there’s a big section on the site about made in the USA and also I’ve seen on your blog where you talk about the differences between assembled in the USA, made in the USA, et cetera. There’s a big point of pride, I think, with the Jacob Bromwell company about being US sourced.
Are the craftsmen themselves using any vintage or original types of equipment? Is everything sourced in the US? Tell me a little bit about that aspect of production.
Sean: Being made in the USA is absolutely important to us. It’s important to our customers, it’s important to us ethically and morally. We want to make products here. A
lot of the reasons our products are so expensive is … it’s pretty obvious anyone looking at our products the first thing they almost always notice is price. The fact that they’re made here, fully made here, to answer your question, 100% made here with materials sourced domestically. When you add up those costs it can get expensive.
Again, we believe that where a product is made is just as important as the product itself. That’s important to our customers. Obviously, we can’t sell as many units as other companies sell at a Walmart or a Target for a fraction of the cost of ours but it’s important to us and we’re selling to a segment of the population that values that.
Factory Locations & Employees
Kathy: I think that’s wonderful. I value it and I know an awful lot of people personally who do value that which is, of course, one of the things that caught my partners and my eye when we first came across you. We really, really love featuring high quality products on the site.
I happen to know where one of your factories is. It’s up near Jay, Vermont, if I’m not mistaken which is about as north as you can go in Vermont before you’re at the border. It’s just a couple of hours away from my house.
How many people are you guys employing these days? I know that area, I know the North country and the North country is a tough, tough place to make a living. To have a factory that far north says a lot about the integrity of your company. Tell me a little bit about the employees.
Sean: Thank you. Sure. We operate a few different facilities. The one up in North Vermont is our copper facility where all of our copper goods are made. Then we have a factory in Markle, Indiana which was where we make all of our heritage products, are kitchenware and bakeware primarily. Then we have offices in Los Angeles, where the company’s headquartered, and a sales office in Orange County.
We have a variety of different other facilities as well. Overall, we’re employing about … On and off, the company’s seasonal and we scale up during high season but I would say on average we’re about 25 to 35 employees.
Kathy: 25 to 35 employees, that’s pretty amazing. All that stuff comes out of the hands of 25 to 35 people. Wow.
I’ve seen some of the videos and I’ve seen some of the photos with some of the workmanship going into it. Are some of the craftsmen using original types of equipment? Is everything more modern or do some of them actually use some of the older types of tools?
Products Made to the Authentic, Original Designs
Sean: That’s right, you’d asked that. All the products we make have brand-new parts. Just to give you an example. For example, the flour sifter is authentic to the original design that was used 200 years ago. Everything is brand-new but we essentially re-created the tools and the parts to be exact duplicates.
Kathy: I see exactly what you’re saying.
Sean: Either exact or they’re near exacts. It’s been a balance that we’ve had to strike because we’ve obviously wanted to maintain the original look and feel of the product but also increase the quality wherever and whenever that was needed. It’s been a fine line that we’ve had to walk on some of the items but whenever possible we try to maintain that authenticity.
Kathy: Has anybody come forward with a real antique, with a really old piece? What’s the oldest piece you’ve seen come through since you’ve been on board with the company?
Sean: We get customers all the time that reach out with a Bromwell product that they’ve had passed down for 50 years, or 100 years, or even more. Very common. We hear from customers weekly with those types of comments and photos. We have products here in our sample room and in our office that are literally from the early 1800s, original pieces.
Kathy: I’d love to come across some of that type of thing. We always have our eyes open for pieces when we’re out on the yard sale and auction circuit. It’s just one of those things I’ll keep my eyes open for especially up in the North country.
(NOTE: Since this interview aired and went on YouTube, I have personally located 3 vintage Jacob Bromwell products! Here are the photos!)
We’ve talked a little bit about the history and what have you. If you were to pinpoint one particular thing what’s the most significant event that you can think that has been part of the company’s history? The biggest impact or most significant event?
The Company Survived the Great Depression
Sean: That’s a great question. The first thing that comes to mind is The Great Depression. We have a lot of company documents here from The Great Depression and the business came extremely close to going out of business during that time.
According to records, the company was losing money every year by a lot. The management, at the time, decided to stay the course and continue to employ people.
They believed in the upcoming prosperity of America and that they were going to get out of it. I’m so happy that they decided to do that and they didn’t close the doors because that would’ve been a fatal mistake. A lot of businesses at that time did close their doors.
Kathy: Perseverance.
Sean: Yup!
Sean’s Point of View as President of the Company
Kathy: Wow. How long have you been part of the company, Sean?
Sean: This is going to be my sixth year now.
Kathy: Awesome. That’s really great. I have to tell you, I personally really appreciated the communication that you’ve given me.
I know you’re a busy guy so to be able to talk with the president of a company is really a rare instance in your busy day and I want you to know I really do appreciate it as do my partners, and as do our readers because they’re going to be seeing this.
Since you are pretty much the head honcho what, would do you like best?
Sean: There’s a lot of leaders of companies that just like to sit behind their desk, and close their office door, and just be a hermit.
I’m the exact opposite. I really enjoy people, I enjoy talking to customers, I enjoy talking to constituents like yourself, anyone that is involved in the business in some way. I like to be on the front lines as much as possible. While I enjoy leading, and setting a vision and direction for the company, and managing people I also very much enjoy being on the field and talking directly to customers and getting that feedback directly.
Kathy: Since you are so involved and you’re involved in every aspect of the company from the person who, probably, packs the boxes up to the person who’s hammering copper when it comes to this company what is it you’re most proud of?
Sean: Boy, that’s another good one. I’m going to sound a little bit like a broken record saying this but it’s really just the fact that our products are made here and that we’re employing American workers.
It would be so much easier to just start producing these products offshore and so many ways. Logistically it would be easier, it would be cheaper, our margins would go up exponentially. Some analysts could look at it on paper and just say that’s totally the right decision go offshore, just like every other company go offshore.
It’s really, really something that I’m personally proud of that we’ve resisted that and that we’ve stayed true to our heritage.
Remaining true to their heritage has been one of their most enduring traits.
Kathy: We’re going to come back to that in a minute because there’s a question I want to ask you so I just made a little note of that said, “Don’t forget that.” When you just talked about going offshore … I think about this sometimes whenever I’m looking at products like yours which are so enduring and just so well made. You just don’t see them. You do not see products that are meant to last the way Jacob Bromwell products are.
We’re in an era where we see so much of this. We see the plastic gadgets, we see disposable household items that we never would’ve seen growing up. When we see so many people with the throwaway products what do you think has contributed to the desire for this enduring product in, what would be considered, a throwaway society?
Sean: That’s a great question. It might be American society has just become such a fast-paced society. I think that might have a lot to do with it. People barely have time to grab lunch they’re so busy.
Kathy: In cases like that, what do you think was the turning point for some of these folks? The ones especially we’re talking about, a lot of urban dwellers who are really attracted to the Bromwell product line. What is it that’s making them want this? Is it because it’s so fast-paced that they feel like they need to anchor themselves in something solid? Your popularity is going through the roof, your popularity is insane.
Jacob Bromwell satisfies a desire for simplicity and quality
Sean: Thank you. Yeah, it’s really been catching on. I think that people are longing for the past in some way. The Jacob Bromwell brand, the products that we sell there so much more than it’s just a flour sifter, just a flask. It’s so much more than that. Our brand speaks to a time when life was simpler and when things were made with care.
When people had to spend with family and friends around an open campfire, and share stories, and cook popcorn, and do those types of things. That’s really what the Jacob Bromwell brand stands for. All of our products are really secondary to that. I think that once you understand our brand and our message it becomes really clear that any of the products that we sell can help you achieve that.
Perfect for Vintage Decor
Kathy: It got me thinking about something. I was thinking about how many of those products I would love in my own home up north. John and I, my husband and I have a mountain cottage and it’s a vintage cottage. It’s been modernized, of course, but these are the types of products that would fit in perfectly with our house.
I was a little surprised at a feeling that I noticed coming upon me almost like when I’m looking at your products. It’s like a rush of wistfulness. It’s like I, again, want that simplicity and that peacefulness that seems to saturate your product line. I was thinking, and my out of my mind?
Sean: Yeah you’re absolutely right. There’s also another part of our product line that’s extremely important to us is embracing the imperfection of our products.
You go to Walmart, for example, and you go to the camping section, and you go to try to find a stainless steel mug it’s perfect. Perfectly machined, came out of the machine in China, they probably made 10,000 that day; the same one that you’re looking at. There’s just nothing there. It’s probably a 3 or $4 cup and it’s perfect, and you use it, and you throw it away, and that’s it. That’s the end of it.
Our products are 100% authentic from the day they were created. Part of that means that they’re not perfect. They may not have the most efficient design, or the most efficient handle, or whatever it is but it’s embracing that authenticity and finding the beauty in it.
The products are sometimes used in surprising ways…
Kathy : Surely, you’ve seen some unusual uses for the products. Obviously, a flask is going to appeal to someone who wants to carry a nip around in style. Is there anything that you’ve seen, any of these products used for that has had you either shaking your head or has surprised you?
Sean: Oh yeah. We have a lot of environmentalists that use our tin cups, for example, because they’re 99% biodegradable. Meaning a lot of people don’t go out camping with their cups or they’ll use their cups for painting, or whatever it is. They’ll use the cup for whatever it is they want to use it for and then instead of throwing it away they just throw it out in the soil or out in the field.
It is biodegradable and over a period of time it actually becomes one with Earth again so that’s pretty interesting. It’s certainly not something that we market or advertise people to do but we’ve had a lot of stories of people doing that.
Kathy: Fascinating. I can’t believe that people would actually toss a mug. Anyway. You get all kinds right?
Jacob Bromwell: seen in movies and TV
Sean: Another interesting thing is Hollywood set designers often frequently use the products. The products have been used in a variety of different films none of which are any that we’ve paid for product placement or anything like that. It’s just been all to our surprise so that’s been neat.
Kathy: I saw that. You were actually pretty sure you saw some in ‘The Revenant,’ the Leonardo DiCaprio film that recently won some awards.
Sean : Yeah. Did you see that movie?
Kathy: Not yet. I’m thinking we we’re going to though because I’m sure that that’s one we would both really enjoy.
Sean: It’s a great film. It’s long but it’s really good. He carries around this canteen with him, this water canteen, for the majority of the movie he’s carrying this canteen around. That’s a Jacob Bromwell canteen.
Kathy: It’s interesting. How do you guys find out that they’re using them? Unless they just buy them you never know. Do you know when they’re going to do this or are you just surprised?
Sean: Most of the time we’re just surprised. Sometimes we get a customer that emails us to say you were featured or we get someone directly involved in the movie. Most of the time we just come across it.
Kathy: Did water canteen did sales go through the roof after ‘The Revenant?’
Sean: I would like to say yes but, in that case, really I don’t think so. It’s one of those things where there was no mention of Jacob Bromwell anywhere. I don’t think anybody connected the dots on that one and said, “Oh, that’s a Jacob Bromwell product.” It’s just interesting to see our items used throughout a variety of films. It’s pretty neat.
Even a cameo appearance on Shark Tank
Kathy: That is really cool. Now, that we’re on the subject of film I want to come back to something you mentioned earlier. You were talking about how there are those who would say you should take your business offshore and blah, blah, blah. I also noticed a mention somewhere on your blog that somehow or another you guys were on ‘Shark Tank?’
Sean: Yeah. We weren’t on ‘Shark Tank’ to raise money but one of the Bromwell graters was used as a prop for one of the companies.
Kathy: I am a huge ‘Shark Tank’ fan. I love it. That’s neat. I’ll have to go and find that.
(NOTE: It was actually a flour sifter that was shown. The company that was using the Bromwell flour sifter in that clip on Shark Tank was the Chapul cricket protein product company.)
Sean: You’d have Robert or Mark saying, “No. Stay here, keep it made here.”
Kathy: That’s a great show. Having Lori demonstrate the grater saying, “This thing is wonderful. You can use it for everything.” Get the grater on whatever that show is that she sells on QVC or whatever.
We were talking about ‘The Revenant’ which is, of course, a movie that takes place a long time ago. Have you ever noticed folks purchasing items for historical reenactment purposes?
Perfect for Re-enactors
Sean: Absolutely. That’s a pretty sizable market for us actually, for some of our products. Like the tin cups. They call them Civil War settlers, the re-enactors, so they purchase those tin cups. Our tin cups were actually made by the Bromwell company and supplied to Confederate and Union soldiers during the Civil War.
Kathy: Awesome. I knew it!
Sean: It’s the exact same cup, the same design, made on the same machines, made by the same company. It’s 100% historically accurate and authentic.
Kathy: What you got new in the works? Anything new in the works?
Sean: I would say every year we, probably, launch maybe a dozen new items. We put a lot of care and thought into those products. We don’t just randomly make things to make them. They have to have meaning, and purpose, and have to tie in nicely to our current assortment.
Jacob Bromwell Limited Editions
Kathy: I’ve seen a couple of limited editions that you’ve had in the past and I wonder about that a little.
Sean: Exactly yeah. That being said, I was going to say, the limited edition flasks are something that we’ve had some success with and we’re going to be rolling out some new designs this year. Pretty exciting!
Kathy: I know we’ve taken a lot of your time but before we close, any meaningful fun anecdotes? Any best thing a customer’s ever shared or one of the more unusual things that you’ve seen in your time there?
Sean: I want to say this was back in 2013, a few years ago, we had a customer call in and say that he was out stranded in the middle of the desert in the summer. I think, he was out in Arizona. He had no food with him, he was lost, he had no compass, he had nothing with him, he was alone, and the only thing he had with him was his flask. It was filled with water and he said that that flask saved his life. That was pretty neat.
Kathy: That is so cool! I thought you were going to say that he found the 800 number carved in the flask and he called for help. Anything else you want to share or anything you’re looking forward to especially with regards to what’s upcoming for the future of the company?
Sean: We’re excited every year to see our mission catching on, and more people joining our movement, more customers purchasing American-made, and coming around to that idea of spending a little bit more money but getting a better quality product that’s going to last a lifetime. Our sales are reflecting that and our growth is there. We’re just excited to keep on going.
Kathy: I’m excited too. I want to just remind my readers and my listeners, who might be listening in on this after we’re done and I get this up on YouTube or what not, that here at our website, at MyFavDeals.org we are putting up as much as our time can get us putting every one of these items up there for you to see.
If you happen to be on our site going through this Jacob Bromwell review, make sure you visit the Jacob Bromwell site, it’s a wonderful site.

Garden Gazebos
Gazebos are increasingly becoming an integral part of our garden furniture choices, providing a safe and shaded area where you and your family can get out of the sun in warm weather, or stay out later into the evening without being bothered by insects. Some of the cheaper gazebos have just a roof with four poles to support it while others have fabric walls to keep you enclosed, sheltered from the wind or away from the annoyance of mosquitoes.
While most are temporary and very mobile structures made from canvas and fabric and collapsible poles, there are more robust gazebo structures which have more solid posts and a metal or wooden roof. These are designed to stay put once assembled but they have the advantage of being strong enough to resist quite strong winds.
Some of the top gazebo models available from Canopy Mart include the metal-framed Palermo gazebo with polycarbonate roof panels or the larger 11 ft by 15 ft Valencia gazebo from STC, with its aluminum and steel frame and fabric roof covering. If you are looking for a cheaper canvas gazebo, one that you can take on a camping trip for example, you could go for one of the Caravan range of pop-up tents; these are great for smaller families or they can be used for a day on the beach to provide essential shade for smaller children.

Sun Shade Sails
If you are lucky enough to have a few trees in and around your back garden then you can use them to provide additional cover using an innovative Sun Shade sail from Canopy Mart.
These are triangular or rectangular pieces of heavy-duty UV-treated polyethylene that can be securely attached to tree branches or fixtures on your house in order to create more shade in your garden — great for young children or to allow you to eat meals in the yard without having to put up with direct sunlight.
Canopy Mart sells these in a variety of different bright, fun colors, and can become an attractive garden feature in their own right, as well as providing much needed shade.
They also carry the popular event tents by both Optidome and Star Shade!

Patio Canopies
If you have a smaller garden or decking at the rear of your property, a patio canopy can be a great way to create some shade. Canopy Mart sells the popular Feria range of patio canopies, solid structures which consist of three or four supporting poles and a roof made up of a few polycarbonate panels. These ensure that the area is in shade without becoming too dark and gloomy.
These are available in a variety of lengths, from 24 ft to 60 ft, depending on the size of your house, as the patio canopy needs to be supported against a permanent wall.

Shade for Kids and Pets
It is especially important to ensure that young children and pets have somewhere they can sit safely in the shade. Luckily, Canopy Mart sells a range of tents and canopies for both. They have a great selection of colorful and fun children’s play tents. Some, like the Fantasy Gazebo, are designed to look like a fairytale castle while the website also sells play tunnels in different colors, designed like cartoon caterpillars. There are also robust play tents that can be used in the comfort of your back garden or for a day on the beach — where it is vital that young children have somewhere they can sit safely out of the sun for a few hours.

You can even buy shaded kennels for your dog to ensure that they don’t get too hot if they are spending time out in the back garden. The shaded dog kennels on sale at Canopy Mart are available in two sizes: 4 ft by 4 ft or 8 ft by 8 ft; if your pet is going to be in it for a few hours then you need to make sure that the kennel you buy is appropriate to their size.

Everyone wants to be able to enjoy the sunshine in their back garden or when they are away on holiday, but it is equally important that you take proper care to ensure that you and your family are protected from the sun, especially at the hottest time of the day in the early afternoon. Whatever the size of your garden, there will be a gazebo or canopy that will fit your needs perfectly, and Canopy Mart sells dozens of different products, in a variety of process to suit all budgets. They even make sure that youngsters and treasured pets are taken care of with their range of shaded play tents and kennels to keep all members of the family safe in the summer sun.

Helix Sleep And Custom Slumber
Each body is different. Weight, age, injuries, and medical conditions influence the way a person sleeps. Even the mattress itself plays into sleep patterns or sleeplessness, even pain. One’s position on the bed rarely stays the same year after year. Sleep problems can often be linked to sleeping on the wrong mattress, but regular mattresses are made for the average person, not for the individual.
At Helix, a company based in Chicago, they know that there is no average body; only your body. They are passionate about mattresses; fanatical even.
Helix isn’t embarrassed about their obsession with your best sleep and they want consumers to dream about a restful night before it even happens.
For once, dreams can become a reality with little effort on the customer’s part. Leave one-size-fits-all mattresses behind and shop online for the best sleep you have ever had.
How They Do It
Helix starts with a customer’s body type and takes positioning into account as well. Do you sleep on your side, your back, your belly, or curled up in a ball?
With their knowledge of body mechanics, they have the answer to years of poor sleep. Each product is specifically made for the individual, unique customer with the correct density of foam, correct support, and springiness.
Professionals at Helix took their own experiences as customers and sleepers into consideration and they understand how hard it is to buy a mattress at the shop that wasn’t made for you.
Here are the features Helix uses to calculate the shape of your best night’s sleep. They look at density or the weight of foam or latex. You want a high-density material for lasting quality. Even though it is dense, your mattress can be adjusted to offer a softer or harder feel.
The Indentation Load Deflection rating or ILD is what that’s all about. Watch an informational video at Helix to see how that’s figured out. Coil Count is last or counting the springs. Pocketed coils or microcoils can handle pressure from all directions unlike regular coils in most commercial mattresses.
Customer Service
The best customer service is standard when someone is taking your every need into consideration. No service could be more personalized and unique to the individual. Moreover, the people at Helix really care and they are there to talk in the real or virtual realm.
Call or email today. The health of your spine and the deepness of your sleep are seriously important to these people. With science to back them up, they can truly make a difference with custom features that adjust temperature, softness, and support.
What about Couples?
Can couples get a good night sleep on the same mattress if their individual bodies have different needs? This is one of the hardest things about buying a mattress; pleasing both people.
In the end, many couples end up sleeping on two beds pushed together or going to different rooms and sleeping apart. That’s no longer necessary; not at Chicago’s Helix Sleep. Ask about mattresses for two.
How to Start
A 2- to 3-minute quiz asks about the build of your body and the way you sleep. It’s the kind of quiz you always get 100% on. Once they know what your body shape is like and the way you arrange your body at night, Helix makes your mattress from scratch.
Do all of this online in the comfort of a supportive chair at an ergonomic desk and within 10 days your specially-designed mattress will arrive in an octagonal box on wheels. Just wheel this heavy item to the bedroom.
Those wheels are so considerate; it’s ironic how many people hurt their backs trying to lift a mattress designed for people with back pain. Give the mattress almost an hour to settle into position and you might feel a snooze coming on.
Why People Love Amazon So Much
I was pondering why people love Amazon so much after another product recommendation came across my desk. Now, one of the greatest joys of writing for MyFavDeals.org is when my friends get all excited about a product and say, “Kath, I just got (this – that – or the other thing) from Amazon – it is awesome! You HAVE to feature it on your site! People will LOVE this!”
Such a thing happened this morning when one of my best friends emailed me that he had just picked up something that he had evidently been anticipating for a couple of months: Dunkin’ Donuts Bottled Iced Coffee. Yes. He got excited about iced coffee – but not just ANY iced coffee… it had to be Dunkin’ Donuts.
He’s loving this stuff and said, “You gotta write about this! It’s on Amazon! People are going to LOVE this!”
So, I got to thinking about it, and realized how many times I do something similar: I’ll find something I like and then write about it here on MyFavDeals.org for others to find too.
Yes, of course it’s our business here at the website to promote products because that’s how we earn our living: by reviewing, writing about, and posting products.
Face it… We Love Amazon!
But it’s the excitement from others who oftentimes stop by and give us ideas based on their own experiences that raises the “fun level” a lot for us!
What we have found fascinating is our collective love of buying on Amazon. So, this same friend who just told me about the Dunkin’ Donuts Bottled Ice Coffee said to me that his favorite online shopping store was Amazon.
Now, we both buy stuff from other vendors, and because of how remote my own life is when I’m home in northern NH, I buy a LOT of stuff online. And Amazon has really become a primary source for a lot of the stuff that I buy.
You may notice that here on the site there is a pretty wide variety of Amazon products and listings. Again, people buy it, then they tell me about it (for example, this kiddie Nerf bike). Or, I buy it, and I have to tell others about it (case in point: my favorite tooth gel, Livionex).
But WHY? Why do people love Amazon?
We began to think about all the reasons why people love Amazon, and this is what we determined – in no particular order of importance:
Amazon = Convenience and Ease:
My friend said, “a lot of people, like myself, just like the convenience of Amazon, rather than yet another sign up where you end up on yet another email list.”
This is key, I think. For example, yes, you can buy a certain item from a vendor’s site, but they often begin emailing you over and over again – and for people who don’t want their email in-boxes clogged with another newsletter, buying from Amazon helps you avoid this entirely.
Then there is the trust factor:
Amazon has your back if you don’t like something and don’t want to have a hassle with returns. For example, I have seen some merchants who don’t offer money-back returns; however, Amazon does. If you are going to buy on Amazon, the odds are that you may be protected.
Amazon has been around well over 20 years. They are totally beast, and they aren’t going anywhere but everywhere.
Amazon Prime ROCKS
I love my Amazon Prime membership. My same buddy who inspired this post is the one who got me to try it. He said:
“Kath, you buy so much on Amazon, and you always have to wait until you have a huge bundle of stuff to buy so you meet the minimum purchase amount for free shipping. That’s ridiculous because with Amazon Prime you are gonna get free shipping for most everything you buy…”
He was right. I love Prime! Now when I’m running low on one of my staples I just click it, and it’s on its way. Boom. Just like that. Of course not every single item qualifies for free shipping, but mostly everything I buy does.
Then, there are the great add-ons with Prime! For example – and this barely scratches the surface, because I just saw a whole lot more a minute ago:
- Video and music downloads,
- free restaurant delivery if you live in an area where they have launched it (it’s still pretty new as of this writing, and primarily found in urban areas, but you can expect this trend to grow!),
- lots of freebies for my Kindle,
- tons of specials with the Deal of the Day (e.g. I saw a deal for 28% off 5 pounds of Healthworks Organic Cacao Nibs Raw!! Normally, that runs $41.99, but on the day I wrote this post, it was on sale for only $30.28! That’s only $6.26/pound, and ANYONE that buys raw organic cacao knows that this is very rare low price.)
- Then, this – again from my friend, who just told me “Prime has tons of movies and shows included, literally 1000’s. and on top of that, Amazon has a massive video library. I watch shows and movies on there all the time :)”

There are a few other reasons why I think people love Amazon so much.
Very Helpful Amazon Verified Purchase Reviews
Recently Amazon began moving “Verified Purchase” reviews up, so that fake or scammy or spammy reviews wouldn’t be showing up so much, wasting customers’ valuable time. When I am looking to buy something on Amazon, I want to see what REAL customers have to say about an item.
I’m not necessarily looking only for glowing, 5-star reports since I’ve purchased plenty of items that don’t have a 100% 5-star rating. What I’m looking for is information to fill in the blanks about what I’m buying.
For example, I recently restocked some raw Brazil Nuts that I’m fond of, and use daily to get a natural dose of selenium into my diet. There were only 9 reviews of the brand I bought (2 pounds of SUNBEST Whole, Raw, Shelled Brazil Nuts).
The 2nd review was only a 3-star review, but the buyer’s complaint was a perceived lack of consistency in size and freshness. I did consider that – but because I’m only using 2 per day, I’m not really that concerned about the size.
All the other reviews stated that the nuts were all fresh. Freshness has been an issue with some of my Brazil nuts in the past – and my gut feeling is that this particular type of nut may just be prone to going “off” faster than some others. I refrigerate mine, and so I don’t really worry about this.
So, while that one review wasn’t 100% positive, I was able to weigh that one against the others, and made my decision. I bought the SUNBEST nuts, and am completely happy with it. Typically I review my product purchases here at MyFavDeals.org, but occasionally I will leave one on Amazon to add my 2-cents’ worth, because I do know that people value the Verified Purchase reviews there.
Amazon Customer Questions and Answers:
I’m the first to admit that sometimes I need advice. Recently, I purchased a replacement water filter for my Clearly Filtered water pitcher. It turns out that the more generic Seychelle water filter replacement fits the Clearly Filtered pitcher perfectly. Now, in order to prime the filter prior to use, you’re supposed to fit the nozzle of the priming piece over your faucet, and let water slowly run through the filter for about 7-8 minutes.
Last year this wasn’t a problem because our rental unit had a faucet that worked for this perfectly. This year we’re in a different unit, and none of the faucets fit – not even the shower nozzle when we removed the shower head.
So, off I went to Amazon to ask others if they had any suggestions. Within 24 hours, there were 3 responses. The best one for my purposes was someone saying to use a garden hose. Boom! The condo DOES have a water spigot outside that we hadn’t even thought of. Problem solved.
So, other Amazon customers are some of the best allies you’ll have when it comes to finding answers to questions you might have about products. No one else anywhere does this. Amazon has this wired.
Then, there is the SHEER CONVENIENCE
I mentioned earlier that I live in a fairly remote area for half the year. I also am hooked on Trader Joe’s Super Red Drink Powder. The problem is that the closest Trader Joe’s up north is a solid 2-3 hours away in areas I seldom visit.
And in Florida where I spend the other 6 months, the closest Trader Joe’s is in Orlando, which is a solid 1.5 hours on a very busy highway. I have zero reason to visit Orlando most of the time, and no matter where I live, I cannot justify driving that far just to visit a cool store.
So, I buy my Super Red Drink Powder on Amazon. Now, I must tell you: Amazon prices are not always the lowest, and this product is one of those examples where it’s more expensive on line than at the store. At a Trader Joe’s store, this powder is only about $20 or so. On Amazon it’s about $30 or so (with free delivery since I’m an Amazon Prime member).
More expensive in this case, yes. But convenience and super-fast delivery wins out. It would cost me hundreds of dollars’ worth of my time, plus gas and mileage to drive to Orlando, FL or Portland, ME (not to mention that I’d just have to dine out at one of the jillion amazing restaurants in either of those places to make the trip complete).
I should say, however, that 95% of the time, I pay less for my purchases on Amazon than I would buying elsewhere.
Amazon Gift Cards
Almost everyone loves gift cards. They are the quintessential answer to the question of what to get for the person who has everything. I challenge someone who can’t find SOMETHING that they want on Amazon.
Of course they don’t have everything – as I discuss below – but they pretty much have something for everyone.
Amazon Gift Cards start at $25 and from there the sky’s the limit.

Amazon “Subscribe & Save” Option
While a lot of companies offer the option to subscribe for automatic, timed delivery of products that you are likely to use on a continual basis (think supplements and other consumables), Amazon jumped on this as well. It’s a great idea, and you are clearly given what your savings will be in such cases.
Let’s weigh some “Cons” against the “Pros”
There are so many things to love about Amazon. But, no “review” type of article would be complete without putting something on the “Cons” side of the “Pros & Cons” seesaw.
So, with that in mind, here goes:
What do you mean I can’t pay with PayPal???
Arghgh! I can’t use PayPal to pay on Amazon! I felt that surely there had to be a mistake. My husband & I also buy tons on Ebay, and use PayPal all the time. I also buy stuff on other websites, and almost every single one offers PayPal as a payment option.
But not Amazon. So I looked it up to find out why. In an article at CNBC.com they mention that their own “Amazon Payments” platform is “a direct competitor with PayPal and credit card companies like Visa which has its own online payment solution…” (Source: http://www.cnbc.com/2016/04/04/amazon-expands-payments-to-take-on-paypal.html)
Ok. Fair enough. That makes sense from a corporate and shareholder point of view. I can live with that. I still wish they took PayPal. J
They don’t REALLY carry everything.
I can find almost everything I want and need on Amazon, but not absolutely everything.
Why is that? Simply put, it really is a merchant’s decision whether or not they want to sell their wares on Amazon. Amazon, like Ebay, charges merchants to sell on their platform. That’s how they make money.
I would be willing to bet that on items where profit margins are very slim, it may not be worth a manufacturer’s time and effort to offer their goods on a third party platform.
Because I’m in this business, I happen to know a number of people who sell on Amazon; and, of course my own husband has been an Ebay seller since 2000 – so I know all about seller’s fees, and the fees that merchant accounts (e.g. PayPal, Visa, MC, Amex, etc) charge. All these fees come out of the seller’s profits.
Potential Difficulties for Sellers
Also, remember what I said above about how Amazon has your back if you want to return something? That’s great for customers; however, from personal experience as the wife of a long-time Ebay seller, that very same “buyer protection” can become a seller’s nightmare.
This is just conjecture on my part, but I can base it in what I have seen in my own home.
I have watched my husband struggle with practically being forced to accept a return when a buyer simply changed his or her mind about what they bought. From our perspective, Ebay took on the Amazon strategy of pretty much always taking the buyer’s side, regardless of how hard the seller worked to ensure that the sale would succeed.
Because of the trend of sellers feeling as though they are being pressured (at least in our case on Ebay) to take returns, no matter what, it is easy to see that some sellers are not interested in feeling this pressure.
Playing by the Rules
But, we need to remember that platforms such as Amazon and Ebay don’t belong to the seller – even though, without sellers, neither platform would exist. But, at the end of the day, it’s their sandbox, and if sellers want to play in it, they need to play by the rules of the house.
Again, this last part about why not everything may be available on Amazon is simply my own gut feeling.
So, for that, and other reasons I no doubt am not yet aware, it makes sense that not everyone thinks selling on Amazon is in their best interests.
Regardless of how many pros and cons there are, Amazon is – and will likely continue to be – one of my first go-to places to shop.

The Legend Of Flyboard By Zapata Racing
Zapata Racing started making PWC equipment 18 years ago, under the leadership of Franky Zapata, still CEO. He has a small team of executives working for him and branches around the world. PWC stands for Personal Water Craft, but if you’re thinking of regular boats and jet skis, think again. In 1999, Zapata brought PWC to international attention with a new way of hitting the water or, more accurately, hitting the air above the water.
They have since earned 6 titles in Europe and 2 in world championships using hydro-propulsion to rocket them to the top. The Flyboard represents several years of innovation and development which now brings the company and flyboards to an audience of leisure users as well as competitors. Watch their videos for some celebrity spotting.
This is a sport now in its own right; a new way to tackle the water and win. Other firms have made their own versions, but Zapata Racing is world-renowned. They brought their Flyboard to Qatar in 2012 and the 2014 Dubai competition with their Hoverboard by Zapata Racing.
The company continues to develop new machines employing advances in hydro-propulsion and promoting feats like those a viewer might expect to see in a James Bond movie. Q would be jealous. Movies of the Hoverboard and Flyboard in action have attracted fans in their own right, many of them added during a Super Bowl advertisement, a coveted spot.
Professional Flyboard Riders
Famous names in the industry might not sound familiar to the average individual more familiar with football figures, boxers, or soccer players, but Zapata’s pro riders are famous in the industry. From the USA, there are two: Caleb Gavic and Damone Rippy. Brody Wells and Adrian Boucher represent Canada. Suksan Tongthai comes from Thailand. Watch for the next races, sure to be shown on cable, and find out who is representing your home country.
The Flyboard Legend
A new legend has joined the team; a Flyboard Legend. Those who know these machines are not surprised by its legendary capacities: a turbine that lets riders lift, dive, jump, and perform tricks in the air.
An 18- or 23-meter hose connects to the Personal Water Craft redirecting water to nozzles on the side. The rider controls the device’s height and direction with a throttle to reach as much as 12 meters in the air depending on power.
Riding a Flyboard is like being suspended high atop a wave on a surfboard only the lift lasts longer and remains in mid-air. A wireless way to stay suspended above water is surely the next thing to come from Zapata Racing; the world watches and waits with breathless anticipation.
What Comes with the Flyboard Legend?
With this purchase, consumers receive a rotation system, specific bearings, a supply hose, U pipe for reverse PWC water movement, and a clip interface. The U pipe possesses a propulsion system so the PWC does not have to be towed. Propulsion makes it faster and more efficient.
The Venturi system is responsible for letting water out of the turbine. Special bindings for the boots work specifically with the Flyboard to protect a rider’s foot, ankle bones and joints while he or she is shot into the air at an astounding speed. Flexibility and strength combine to provide safety and support.
Miami Area Flyboard Experience
We have also found a way to try out a Flyboard, at the Bayside Flyboard Experience, if you are ever in the Miami area. They don’t mention whether it is the same one by Zapata Racing, but it looks fun nevertheless!
