Remember “Copa Di Vino?” From Season 2?

Who doesn’t remember the entrepreneur who pretty much left a bad taste in everyone’s mouth – including this writer’s. Copa Di Vino (or, “Glass of Wine”) was and is an absolutely brilliant invention.

In fact, most of the inventions featured on Shark Tank are brilliant, and leave me whacking myself upside the head with the familiar, “Why didn’t I think of that??”

But, James Martin, the inventor who brought this to the Tank was incredibly distasteful in that he came across as not only arrogant, but also as though the only reason he was really there was as a publicity stunt.

He walked away without taking any deal. And if his appearance WAS in fact a stunt, it worked very well.

Just 2 days ago, I personally saw Copa Di Vino on the shelves at a convenience store. The display was not all that remarkable, but I noticed it right away. I mentioned it to the clerk, and he smiled, saying, “Yeah, we all get a kick out of this – I think everyone saw this on Shark Tank!” He said it sells well.

I was a little surprised at the size of the product – I thought it would be larger; however, it’s just a small little single serving. I didn’t pay attention to how MUCH wine was in the glass, but I’m guessing no more than 5 ounces or so. I’ll have to go back and double check. Interestingly, it’s not immediately evident on the Copa Di Vino website.

Also, the site calls it a “glass.” It doesn’t specify exactly whether it’s real glass or a plastic. The website is a little slow in loading for me (at least today), and difficult for me to read BECAUSE IT’S ALL IN CAPS AND IT SOUNDS LIKE THEY’RE YELLING. Customers are able to purchase Copa Di Vino on the site, but again, because I’m not seeing exactly what I’m supposed to be getting (ounces, etc) in my order, I’m going to buy it at the convenience store to give it a try, and will report back here once I do!
