Radar Detectors

We decided to take a look at the top ten Radar Detectors, and compare them here.

Certain features are common to the best radar detectors of 2015 and any which are worth your money. Those include the ability to detect a type of radar band (X, K, or Ka), laser detection, and POP mode detector which spots emissions from radar guns. Some other features aren’t universal. The best of them display a variety of features you just have to have if you can afford the money and some are amazingly low-priced considering their many features. Here are our picks for the top ten radar detectors.

1. Escort Max 360 Radar Detector

Escort’s “360” provides 360º detection using two antennae that show radar from all directions. Color coding indicates the band detected. GPS is built in. There is false signal blocking shutting out irrelevant signals. The 360 alerts its owner to red light cameras and stores the sites of non-moving speed traps using “AutoLearn” technology. City Mode shuts down signals from K-band sources while spotting signals from air patrols. This is a Bluetooth-connected device which comes with “Escort Live!,” an app for community connectivity. See your speed against posted limits as you drive. The Max 360 costs around $650. BUY IT –> www.escortradar.com/max360/All New MAX 360 - Power, Precision, 360 Degree Protection

2. Beltronics GT-7

A Beltronics GT-7 costs about $500 but it isn’t built with two antennae. It’s got an impressively wide signal range for detecting signals, however, plus GPS, a speed-camera database already loaded, and the GT-7 shuts out radar signals you don’t need to know about. The screen is lovely, depicting quality, strength, and type of signal. (UPDATE: We found this on Amazon – and as of this writing, it is 14$ off its usual Amazon price of $499.95, bringing it to $430.87 (w/ free shipping) BUY IT –> Beltronics GT-7 on Amazon.com

Its DSP (Digital Signal Processing) microprocessor is responsible for features like a speed trap warning, the ability to learn where traps are on regular routes, and more.

Once more this unit is Bluetooth compatible and there is an app for getting in touch with other people using the Beltronics GT-7 radar detector.Extreme Range Radar-Laser Detector with Expert Accuracy: Leave all of your worries behind with the all-new Beltronics GT-7, the most wicked high-performance radar-laser detector on the road.

3. Escort Passport Max 2

This is one of the top-guns in the industry with almost every feature including over-speed alert, speed notification, and detection of cameras and speed traps. It almost contends with the Max 360 except that Escort widened their range of detection and also supplies directional detection with those dual antennae. With the Escort Passport Max 2, you have the convenience of voice commands: that is, you don’t even have to read the display to find out what is going on out on the highway whether that happens to be an accident you should slow down for or the presence of an emergency vehicle that might be en route to a scene. That’s right: the Passport Max 2 detects those too. GPS is built in.

4. Escort Passport Max IX

For about $100 less (around $500) this is another exceptional Escort product with most of the same features as the Passport Max 2 except the over-speed alert. Like its higher-priced buddy, the Max IX comes with Bluetooth compatibility, community sharing, and an auto-learn function built in. That means the device learns where cameras and other fixed traps are located if you use a route regularly. If you don’t, then there’s a job to complete the old-fashioned way.  BUY IT –> www.escortradar.com/passportmax/Passport Max, high definition rader, quicker than the blink of an eye from EscortRadar.com

5. Whistler CR90

Drop the price considerably to under $250 and you still have the chance to own a good machine. The Whistler CR90 is almost the equivalent of Escort’s two previous products except that it does not offer that over-speed alert, Bluetooth compatibility, or the ability to share with other Whistler CR90 users as a result. This Whistler product does contain AutoLearn and a function that lets you program in locations of speed traps yourself besides other handy features at an attractive price. 6. Beltronics Pro 500

Kick up the price a notch to around $450 and buy a device by one of the top manufacturers of radar detectors. Their Pro 500 (like most machines) catches false alerts sent out by motion detectors and automatic door openers. It goes dark at night if you just want voice alerts, thereby reducing distractions on the road. Enjoy Bluetooth connectivity and sharing but not an auto-learn function, unfortunately, though the Pro 500 can be programmed to remember sensitive locations when you recognize them. The GT-7 by Beltronics gets more points simply because its newer technology provides a wider detection scope.

The best price we saw was on Amazon (seems to be a trend here) List Price: $499.00 – YOUR price is $349.95 & FREE Shipping. This means you’re saving $149.05 (that’s a good 30% off!). BUY IT –> Beltronics Pro 500 radar detector on Amazon.com

7. Cobra SPX 7800 BT

You can see right away by the title that this is a Bluetooth unit, but you aren’t hit with as high a price as you might expect: less than $250. Maybe consumers pay less because there are no voice alerts but you still receive multiple threat display to indicate when an ambulance, police car, or fire truck is on the road or a hazard has been reported in the area. There are times when driving too fast is an especially dangerous idea. The SPX 7800 BT by Cobra filters out false alerts from garage door openers too. 8. Beltronics STi Magnum

You are into the realm of very high-priced machines here with the Magnum although the Magnum Sti Plus is even more expensive (about double the price) thanks to its stealth mode. Turn it into a GPS-only device at the press of a button. Still, $650+ buys a good machine with voice alerts, displays of various threats on the road, automatic muting after an alert is sounded, and dark-mode (no display in the dark or when you want to be stealthy.) We found the Beltronics STi Magnum at Amazon – List Price: $528.00 – but you’re getting 21% off (saving $109.46), bringing your price down to $418.54 & FREE Shipping. 9. Escort Redline

If your budget is tight this is one of those low-cost, high-performing models designed to offer the most important features. Okay, you can’t connect via Bluetooth with other Escort users. No, it doesn’t provide built-in GPS, but think about it: your car probably has satellite navigation built in. All you need is something to indicate when there is a radar detector on the road nearby so you can adjust your speed accordingly. This one will warn you about Emergency Response Vehicles and car accidents too. BUY IT –> ESCORT RedLine

10. Beltronics RX65

It’s not a lot more money than the Redline, and the Beltronics RX65 provides cost-conscious consumers with another option they can afford. Both of these manufacturers feature routinely at the top of the charts as you can see. The RX65 is comparable to the Redline in virtually every way. On Amazon, the Beltronics RX65-Red Professional Series Radar Detector gets high marks all around, earning a 4.3 out of 5 star rating (64% of which are 5-stars), and as of this writing, the list price of $299.95 has been marked down 44% (that’s $130.95 off), bringing your grand total to $169.00 & FREE Shipping.
